Educators

AlamoPROMISE aims to reduce students' financial barriers to entering and completing a certificate or associate's degree program by providing last-dollar tuition funding that covers the gap between needs-based financial aid and the cost of tuition and mandatory fees for up to three years or the completion of an associates or academic certificate, whichever comes first.

The Alamo Colleges District and its public and private sector partners are working together to provide the support students need to complete an education beyond high school while creating pathways to careers. You can assist by spreading the word about the AlamoPROMISE program.

All graduating seniors in Bexar County can become an AlamoPROMISE scholar and receive tuition-free college by completing the admission and financial aid requirements and enrolling the Fall after graduating.

Why AlamoPROMISE?

  • An investment in college education is an investment in the prosperity and vitality of our community. San Antonio is one of the fastest growing economic regions in the country, yet the percentage of San Antonio’s population in poverty was the second highest among the top 25 largest U.S. metro areas in 2017.
  • 65% of all jobs require credentials beyond high school by the year 2020; but only 33% of adults have an associate degree or higher in San Antonio.
  • Only 45% of high school seniors attend college, and only 33% complete college in San Antonio (12% lower than the national average). Education impacts individual earnings five times more than any other demographic factor.
  • The average associate degree graduate from the Alamo Colleges District — the largest provider of higher education in South Texas — will experience a $9,400 earnings increase each year compared to a high school graduate in Texas.

AlamoPROMISE reduces financial barriers for students to enter and complete college while providing assistance with navigating college enrollment, completion, and career entry through personalized support.

An educational credential is the single-most powerful tool there is to provide an individual with economic mobility and change the trajectory of their future.
